Gamescom 2011: CEO Eric Hirshberg calls rhetoric Publisher "bad for the industry," says game makers should support each other instead.

With Call of Duty 3, Electronic Arts wants to take down Activision 's Call of Duty franchise, and it hasn' t been shy about admitting as much. But with the opening statements at this year 's Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, beat Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, that such incitement ultimately serves no one.

Hirshberg would like to keep the fighting confined to his games.

As reported ? gamer, Hirshberg said competition was a good thing. He added, however, that the public statements of hope for a rival 's game crosses a line to fail.

"Recently a competitor to us, saying that he wants to see Call of Duty \ was quoted" out of the red nucleus, '"said Hirshberg." I' ve been asked countless times, on reply to this comment, and I 've not usually choose. My job is to make our incredibly talented and passionate team, the best games you can make them not to throw insults at others. But I actually think this kind of rhetoric is bad for our industry. "

Hirshberg went on to say that publishers should support each other, because a great game will always sell because they 's great, because they do not steal sales from competitors. He said that was the mentality of politics that one side is if a different side to win, lose calls.

"We shouldn 't be torn to pieces fighting for a bigger share of the pie," said Hirshberg. "We should all try to grow a bigger pie to be focused. If we act as an industry as it 'sa finite number of games in the world, then there will be."
